EmpowHERment was birthed as a vision of Founder, Carrie B. Cook. Carrie believes deeply in empowering girls and women with the resources, skills and networks to realize their full potential as leaders.
Carrie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Master of Public Administration degree with a focus on Education Policy and Economic Development from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is also a recent graduate of the Business Management for Nonprofit Leaders program at Wake Forest University, School of Business in uptown Charlotte.
Carrie is committed to empowering local and global communities. In 2011 Carrie received the Young Public Administrator of the Year Award from the National Forum of Black Public Administrators, and in 2012 she was selected as one of nine leaders under 30 in Charlotte for the World Economic Forum Global Shapers Community. Carrie was recognized as the 2013 Emerging Leader Woman of Achievement by the YWCA Central Carolinas for her commitment to empowering women, eliminating racism and promoting social justice. In 2014, Carrie humbly accepted the Harvey B. Gantt community service award, and she was 1 of 10 nonprofit entrepreneurs selected as a Seed20 finalist. The United Negro College Fund recognized Carrie with the Maya Angelou Young Leader Award in 2016. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. where she serves locally on the social action committee. Carrie also serves as the Public Policy Institute Chair for the Junior League of Charlotte, a Board of Directors member for the UNC Chapel Hill School of Government and as a member of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Housing Advisory Board.
A native of Charlotte, NC, Carrie is grateful for the opportunity to be a servant-leader with girls and women in her local community and beyond. She credits her faith, family and fortitude for helping her continually evolve. Carrie is a lover of all things with cheese, and she enjoys uncontrollable laughter with friends. Her adventurous spirit and love of new experiences has led her to over 30 countries across 7 continents.
