Become a Mentor
62% of U.S. girls report no connection with local women leaders outside of their family – we change that. YOU can help bridge the gap. Mentoring is a learning and growth experience for both the mentor and mentee.
Our EmpowHERment Leadership Academy and Mentorship Program are currently in its 6th year. Mentorship cohorts typically begin in January. Due to the school calendar we are now conducting orientations throughout the year. We need YOU to empower HER to lead!

The National Mentoring Partnership found that nearly 18 million youth need or want a mentor, but only three million are informal, high-quality mentoring relationships. That means more than 15 million young people still need mentors. Our mentoring program pairs girls in the 9th grade Charlotte and the surrounding areas with a supportive one-on-one mentor. Mentors commit to helping their mentee build a talent development portfolio and advocacy platform through a 9-month EmpowHERment curriculum throughout her high school career that is supported by our monthly community partnership events.
EmpowHERment isn’t just about mentee development; we provide a reciprocal growth opportunity where both the mentee and mentor realize their full potential and strengthen their voice, talent and network as leaders.
Mentors are the heart of our organizational body. They enrich not only the lives of Charlotte teen girls, but also, her own lives and our entire community. CMS area girls in 9th grade are eligible to apply for an EmpowHERment mentor. The EmpowHERment Mentorship Committee evaluates mentee and mentor applications to identify matches with the greatest potential to positively impact both parties.
Mentorship is one of the most rewarding experiences we will have, but it requires a solid commitment to maximizing outcomes. Please review the mentor commitment list below.
